They had neural net based recognition working rather well for people of European and African ancestry, but giving terrible results for people of East Asian ancestry. One of the lead researchers, a fellow with a Chinese surname, was quoted as saying in exasperation "Dammit, it's true! We DO all look alike!"<br /><br />(Yes, it just means that the recognition system was using inappropriate criteria, or that it should have been trained on a larger sample of East Asians.
